- Olive oil is good for the heart because it contains no cholesterol
and actually reduces cholesterol in the body which decreases the risk
of cardiovascular illness and heart attack.
- Olive oil is good for the body because when it’s extra virgin
it’s processed without heat or chemicals or other additives. It
is the only vegetable oil which is edible the moment it is pressed as
the other seed oils need to be treated first. Olive oil also has a high
smoking point which makes it excellent for frying.
- Olive oil is good for the body because when it’s extra virgin
it is a high quality fat with an acidity level of no more than 1 %.
This means that the oil’s free fatty acids, which are not good
for the body, only take up less than 1 gram per 100 grams. Remember
the body needs fat and monounsaturated fats like olive oil are the best
you can get.
- Olive oil is good for digestion because it reduces gastric acidity,
protects against ulcers, prevents constipation, stimulates bile secretion
and reduces the risk of gallstones.
- Olive oil is good for bone growth and for developing the bones, brain
and nervous system of embryos and newborns because, like breast milk,
it contains vitamin E and oleic acid.
- Olive oil is good for hair and skin because it contains vitamin E.
- Olive oil is good for helping the body deal with the ageing process
because it protects the brain, tissues and internal organs.
No wonder many elderly Greeks still swear by a tablespoon of olive oil
a day!
